Here's a list of Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips to add to your ten cent crazy book

An adult should always inspect children's candy when they are done trick-or-treating to remove open packages and choking hazards and throw out anything not factory-wrapped - no homemade treats unless you know the cook.- limit amount of treats to be eaten for the evening

Anyone Trick or Treating should always wear light colored clothing to be seen in the dark - and reflective tape should be put on bikes, skateboards, brooms and trick or treat bags

Map out a route so that everyone knows where they are going and how to get home

You may be dressed strange so be careful around animals, especially dogs

Stay on the sidewalks - don't walk in the street

Everyone should have a flashlight with fresh batteries

Stay off the grass and only visit homes with porch lights on

Don't talk to a stranger that approaches you, never go inside a strangers home or get into their car

Watch for cars - look both ways before crossing the street and cross at the corner, don't go between parked vehicles

Use face paint instead of a mask - test make-up on a small area of skin and never go to bed with it on

Use a glow stick instead of a candle in pumpkins. If there is a pumpkin with a candle, be careful, wigs, capes and costumes will catch fire if you get to close

Children should know how to call 9-1-1 if they become lost

Costume accessories (swords, knifes, sticks, canes) should be short, soft and flexible

Hats should not cover eyes

Shoes should fit well

Never trick or treat alone

Don't cut through alleys or fields, stay in populated, well lighted areas
