How To Set Up A Bar (Post 142)

Are you planning a Super Bowl Party and would like to set up a bar, but don't know what you will need.
Well, here's a list for your ten cent crazy book of what you need to keep a bar well stocked.

If you don't have an actual bar, set up a sturdy table near the action but separate from the food.
Have plenty of room for glasses and here's what you'll need for a basic, self-serve bar of cocktails, wine and beer.

Liquor, wine and beer

Figure that each bottle of liquor will provide about 20 drinks. The standard rundown should include vodka, tequila, scotch, bourbon and gin. For other options include white rum, vermouth and triple sec.

Expect to get about four servings per bottle of wine. People usually prefer white to red; look for chardonnay, pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc and for reds, cabernet or zinfandel.

Keep both light and dark beers on hand as well as nonalcoholic beer.

Mixers

For mixers-regular, diet colas and club sodas are the most used, but it's a good idea to offer ginger ale and lemon-lime soda, plus tonic and mineral water. Also have orange, grapefruit, pineapple, tomato and cranberry juice. You could make Cosmopolitans or Bloody Marys or simply purchase ready-made mixers.

Also

Leave out a corkscrew, bottle opener, cocktail napkins, ice bucket and tongs.
Expect to use about 4 ice cubes per drink - so start filling up plastic bags a day or two before the party or get a couple of 10 pound bags,
To keep things simple you can use plastic cups.
For a final touch put out small bowls of lemon and lime slices.

How To Change (Post 141)

Well, being that it's the beginning of a new year, several of you may want to know how you can change, here's a list for your ten cent crazy book of six ways a person can truly change.

1 By changing the way you look – pay attention to your style –cut your hair-change your makeup-wear jewelry –add accessories- this can change the way people receive you

2 Change your routine – drive a new way to work – go somewhere you usually don’t go – like the library- a new grocery store-a new gas station- this way you see new people –they see you and your attitude towards life will change according to how you are treated – if you are treated badly or rudely, or like you don’t matter at one place- go to another- bringing new people into your life will change your perception of yourself and others perceptions of you- making small changes in your routine –upgrading anything you do, will make you feel better

3 Take 10 minutes a day to sit in peace.

4 Try to change any negative thoughts into positive ones – when you listen to others and they don’t listen to you – you are being the one with a higher power and this is said by the Chinese to bring you luck, wealth and happiness.

5 Remember that how you choose to spend your time is up to you – you can be a couch potato and watch television all day, or you can read, sew, paint, clean a closet, cook, or start a new project. You can watch television while doing something else or "watch with a purpose of enjoyment", like learning about a country you would like to see or travel to, or a cooking show, or decorating show – even without doing these things, you will learn knowledge and have a sense of accomplishment. Watching television with a purpose of enjoyment can also mean renting a DVD watching for 15 minutes and then pausing to cook something, clean something, start a project, while the DVD is paused, slowly count to 100 and do something else – chances are 15 or 20 minutes later you’ll realize – Oh yeah – I’m watching a movie. Start the movie and then pause again 15 minutes later- You will accomplish more than ever before and feel good about not wasting time – I have had 4 rented movies last a whole weekend.(of course only try this when you're alone)

6 Think about the people in your life and how you can make them happy – Is it by listening to them, helping them with a project –taking them something you’ve read, that you think they would like, buying them a soda, taking them a muffin – remember these things bring you luck, wealth and happiness.

Most or all remember how great you are – if someone doesn’t have time to listen to you, it is their GREAT loss –for the knowledge you have to share could have changed their life – and how sad for them that they missed out. That’s why they say to pray for your enemies, because if they don’t realize how great YOU are, they have no chance for true happiness.

Diet and Figuring Your BMI (Post 132)

Ok, it’s the beginning of a new year and some of you might want to add a diet and how to figure out your BMI (Body Mass Index) to your ten cent crazy book. As for diet, I’ve only ever been on one that I truly liked, it was no carbs, but I could have all the cheese and bacon that I wanted, and every day at lunch, I could have a taco salad consisting of meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato and all the sour cream that I wanted. As for a snack I could eat cool whip. Surprise, Surprise, I never lost any weight on this diet and was told that it was not at all healthy, BUT I TRULY LIKED THIS DIET! As for BMI, yes, that’s the thing they do to kids in school now, so that they can tell even the skinniest kid that he’s overweight and needs to exercise more, but for those of you that want these things, here they are.

I recently read about a lady who lost over 100 pounds. She ate a bowl of wheat or oat cereal with milk, twice a day. She could eat all the fruit or veggies that she wanted. She ate either chicken, turkey, steak or fish at meal time, and she ate nuts for a snack and drank water if thirsty. She took a multivitamin every day. She said this cured her high cholesterol, high blood pressure, acid reflex and sleep apnea, and this diet is said to be healthy.

As for figuring out your BMI

Measure your height in inches

Example: if you are 5ft 3in, that’s 63 inches tall

Multiply the inches by it self

Example: 63x63=3969

Now take your weight and divide by your answer

Example: If you weigh 120 pounds, divide 3969 into 120 or 120 divided by 3969 = 0.0302343

Now take this answer and multiply by 703

0.0302343x703=21.254712

Your BMI is 21

Your BMI should be 18.5 to 24.9, if higher then 24.9; “they” say you should see a doctor and lose weight.

My BMI does not fall into this range but I do not plan on seeing a doctor but, as you know already, my favorite diet, does not work.

Any expert weight training person, will tell you that figuring your BMI without knowing how much muscle you have, does not give you a true BMI number, but if figuring out your muscle is anything like figuring out your BMI, I do not think I want to go that far. I think they have machines that you stand on at the gym, to figure out your muscle size. If I ever go to the gym, I will let you know if I see this magic machine.

January - Must do list (Post 131)

Well, January is here, and here are a few things to add to your ten cent crazy book that really should be done in January.

Send Thank You Notes for holiday gifts and parties
Rotate your mattress
Clean a Closet
Buy a date book - there are 365 days - make a plan for each one
Organize -your books and your photos
Clean out your freezers and your refrigerator
Make resolutions
Change the batteries in - clocks - watches - alarms and remotes
Replace dryer vent hoses
Hang a bird feeder
Make some Chili ( see post 79 for recipe of Super Easy Chili)

and one of the best tips that I ever received for January is:
Buy a stand alone twelve month accordion folder to hold all your mail, bills and receipts for the year. Accordion twelve month folders cost about five bucks and you'll never lose another bill or receipt.
